New Delhi, India (October 18, 2013): It is learnt that the workers and leaders of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal, also known as Badal Dal, today staged a protest outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Raising slogans against the Delhi Government, the protesters opposed a petition being filed in the Delhi High Court allegedly challenging the authority of Akal Takht. Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK, who is also the president of Delhi unit of Badal Dal, was reportedly leading the protest.

The protesters said that a criminal petition was filed last week by a person named Jatinder Singh Sayali who is very close to former DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna; though Sarna has already denied any link to the said petition.

The petition alleged that Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh interfered in the system of court justice. It was filed after the Akal Takht asked DSGMC former head Paramjeet Singh Sarna to withdraw a petition filed in the Delhi High Court against the decision of the DSGMC to build a Sikh Genocide 1984 memorial in the precincts of Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib in Delhi.

“This would never be acceptable to the Sikhs living across the globe and Sarna was doing all this at the behest of the Congress which has always harmed the interest of the Sikhs,” added Manjit Singh GK.

DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that it is the Congress’ well-planned game under which they are continuously working against the Akal Takht.

Alleging that the Congress was interfering in the Sikh matters, GK said that it has happened for the first time that a petition was filed in the court against Shri Akal Takht.
