Sops to migrants: Like BJP & Congress, Badal too serving interest of Delhi against the interest of Punjab

November 5, 2013 | By

Amritsar, Punjab (November 05, 2013): The Dal Khalsa took a dig at Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal for showering praises on migrant labour and providing sops including free education, health care and housing facilities for them.

In a hard hitting statement, the Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the increasingly growing influx and settlement of migrants into the state has brought about many negative and unwanted changes to Punjab.

It’s ironic that Mr Badal has failed to realize that the influx of migrants has had a serious socio-economic-cultural ramification on Sikhs in particular and Punjab in general, said he.

“By encouraging them to get settled in the state, the SAD has joined the club of political parties including BJP and the Congress that has been serving the interest of Delhi against the interest of Punjab”, said he.

“Punjab has the largest Dalit population in the country. A large percentage of this section is poorer than the migrants settled in Punjab. Over the years this section continues to remain a neglected lot. Why the Akali government has not so far provided the same facilities to this section of the Punjab population, he asked.

Slamming the Badal government for offering sops on the eve of elections, he said “it is clearly vote-bank politics that would result in harming the interests of Punjab”.

We have already campaigned in public about the nefarious designs of the centre to disturb the demographics of Punjab with a huge settlement of immigrant population. It is cleared that the centre cannot tolerate a Sikh majority state, he opined.”

The Badal must learn a lesson from the statement of the Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah in which he has announced that learning Kannada language and culture will be compulsory for all immigrants. “Badal must ensure that no sop is given to anyone who cannot read and write Punjabi”.

It is noteworthy that the Dal Khalsa has recently asked the Punjab government to formulate laws to ensure that at least 80 percent of jobs are reserved for Punjabis in the state.

The leader of the pro-freedom group reiterated its demand urging the Punjab govt to bring an ordinance to fix a ceiling on jobs for migrants. However, he clarified that theirs organization was not against their coming to Punjab to earn bread & butter, but were concerned about their permanent settlement as it tends to disturb the demographic complexion of the state.
