Amritsar (April 26, 2010): Sharply criticizing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari for absolving the Congress party in the 1984 anti-Sikh killings, the Dal Khalsa reiterated that the Congress and the BJP were the two sides of the same coin and both have been playing the ‘politics of genocide’ against minorities to keep their (Hindu) vote-bank intact.
It is pertinent to mention that the BJP head in his interview with BBC Hindi Service has said that it’s not entirely correct to blame the then Congress government for initiating the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
In a hard hitting statement, party’s secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh described Gadhkari’s remarks that “nobody can manipulate or organize such incidents; these are unfortunate reactions of the people at large” as rubbish and ridiculous.
Contesting the Gadkari’s theory, he said without the support and ‘go-ahead’ of the administration and state machinery, people on their own could never dare to resort to such level of mass violence and murder. What happened in 1984 was an organized violence perpetrated by the frenzied mob under the patronization of then government and the Congress high command including late Rajiv Gandhi”.
“By absolving the Congress for its crime against Sikhs, the BJP leader has aimed to send the feeler to Congressmen- you pat my back, I pat yours”. “What Congress did to Sikhs in 1984 was the same what the BJP has done to Muslims in 2002. Hands of both the parties have been dipped in the bloods of innocent Sikhs and Muslims”.
Cornering the SAD (Badal) in Punjab for aligning with the BJP, he said the Badal duo has ruined the present and future of the community for their personal vested interests. Let both father and son to explain their position vis-à-vis Gadkari’s remarks, asks Dal Khalsa activist.
