Amarinder, Jaitley exchange over June 1984 attack has something in common

March 27, 2014 | By

Amritsar, Punjab (March 27, 2014): Amritsar is witnessing an exchange of blames between two poll contenders. The issue is June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib. One of the contenders is Arun Jaitley, whose outlook as a Hindutva protagonist is a well known fact. Other is Captain Amrinder Singh, a Sikh by outlook, but who is terming the Sikh martyrs who defended the Darbar Sahib during 1984 attack by Indian army, as ‘terrorists’ and who has openly opposed the memorial for June 1984 Sikh martyrs.

In this ‘election war’, as it is being termed, the concerns of the Sikhs have totally been cornered.

Both the contenders Arun Jaitly and Capt. Amrinder Singh are engaged in a verbal exchange over ‘Operation Bluestar’ of June 1984, the deadly attack by Indian army on the Darbar Sahib complex.

Amrinder Singh has been questioning Arun Jaitly that why he is taking support of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), that is considered to have approved the June 1984 memorial inside Darbar Sahib complex.

On the other hand Arun Jaitly has asked Amarinder Singh as to why he was associated with party “responsible” for Operation Bluestar.

Though it appears that Amrinder and Jaitly are opposing each other on the issue but they have something in common as well. Both are holding Sikhs as guilty and in one way or the other attempting to justify the deadly armed attack. As a final result both are targeting the Sikhs on this issue.

Silence of the Sikh circles has provided a free hand to the BJP and the Congress to nail the wounds of Sikhs.
