Mohali/ Ludhiana, Punjab (December 17, 2013): On the call of Bandi Singhs Rihai Morcha (Amb Sahib) initiated by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, various Sikh organizations, in association with local Sikh sangat, held district level protest in all districts of Punjab.
It is notable that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh is on continuous hunger strike since November 14, 2013 seeking release of 6 Sikh political prisoners languishing in Indian jails despite serving the terms of their sentences.
According to information the protests received considerable response from the Sikh masses. Protests were held at district head-quarters and Sikh sangat staged dharnas out-side district administration offices.
Sikh Siyasat sources revealed that memorandums were jointly handed over by all organizations participating in the dharnas/protests to the appropriate district authorises.
The memorandums that were addressed to Chief Minister of Punjab and Home Minister of India demanded release of 6 Sikh political prisoners namely Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh (all in Burrail Jail since 1995), Lal Singh (arrested in 1992, currently in Maximum Security Jail Nabha), Wariam Singh (arrested in 1990, now in Bans Bareli Jail, UP) and Gurdeep Singh Khaira (arrested in 1990, now in Gurbarg Jail, Karnatka).
The developments of recent days shows that the Amb Sahib Morcha, or Bandi Singhs Rihai Morcha has potential of becoming a people’s movement and events are already moving in this regard.
