Australian Prime Minister and Vic Premier sends message on Nanakshahi New Year

Melbourne: Australian Prime Minister Mr. Malcolm Turnbull has congratulated the Sikh Community worldwide on the start of 548th Sikh or Nanakshahi New Year. Supreme Sikh Council of Australia secretary Harkirat Singh told Media that Honorable Prime Minister has praised the community and recognized Sikh community’s contribution to Australia from 1800’s.

Prime Minister has mentioned Sikh principles of Equality, optimism and hard work and asked Sikhs to celebrate their distinct identity, history and achievements. He said Freedom of Expression and embracing diversity has made Australia a successful multicultural society and Australian Nation is a magnificent tapestry and all cultural groups are woven into that.

Victorian Premier Mr Daniel Andrews has also sent congratulatory message and wishes to the Sikh community and Supreme Sikh Council of Australia. He has praised council’s and community’s contribution to Australian society and He said Victorian Government always promotes understanding and respect. Opposition Leader Mr Matthew Guy has also congratulated the community on this auspicious occasion.
