August 29, 2011 | By

Kapurthala/Chandigarh (August 29, 2011): With less than a month to go in general elections of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), the former SGPC cheif Bibi Jagir Kaur along with Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal are in news for illegal land grabing. Punjab Lokpal, Justice (Retd) D S Dhaliwal, today ordered an inquiry into complaint on “illegal occupation” of prime government land in Kapurthala district by former SGPC chief Jagir Kaur at the alleged behest of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Bibi Jagir Kaur is candidate of ruling SAD (Badal) for upcoming SGPC election.

Dhaliwal has directed that an inquiry officer of the rank of IG should submit a report within a month’s time, officials said in Chandigarh.

In this case complainant George Shubh, of Kapurthala district, had recently alleged in his complaint filed before the Lokpal that 12 acres of prime government land of Nagar Panchayat, Begowal estimated to have a market price of Rs 100 crore had been illegally occupied by Kaur, who is also chairperson of Kapurthala District Planning Board.

The Lokpal today recorded the statement of the complainant while ordering the inquiry. The complainant had also alleged that Bibi Jagir Kaur had the backing of Badal on the issue.

The petition said that Bibi Jagir Kaur had been running a private school in an area of around two acres and constructed a six foot high boundary wall.

It said that the government was providing 95% grant in aid to run the school.

“The grant in aid is being misused and 500 children studying in the school are not getting basic facilities. Fees had been collected from them and deposited in Kaur’s private account,” the petition alleged.

Besides, Kaur had given top position to her daughter and son-in-law in the school administration, it claimed while maintaining, “The chief minister is shielding Bibi Jagir Kaur in the misuse of government land.”
