Chandigarh, Punjab (January 7, 2013): Punjab Revenue and Public Relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia has reporedly denied that he had any involvement in the drug trade or with alleged drug kingpin Jagdish Bhola.
Bikram Majithia was named in media as mastermind of drugs racket by arrested former cop cum druglord Jagish Bhola after his court appearance on Jan. 06.
In a statement issued at Chandigarh, Bikram Majithiya said: “We need to understand Jagdish Bhola is a known criminal. He was caught from Murthal near Delhi after due investigations conducted by none other than the Punjab Police which tracked him down after an eight-month-long surveillance exercise. Why would the Punjab Police take this step if any patronage was being given to drug smugglers by the state”.
Bikram Majithia, who is close relative of Punjab’s Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal, further said it was also a recorded fact that Bhola was on the run for months.
“Such a person, who is a desperado and facing a possible life sentence, has now made this wild allegation. It is clearly a mischievous after thought on his part as he had several opportunities to make these allegations earlier but did not do so”, the minister added.
Majithia said it appeared that the Congress had become a party to a conspiracy to tarnish his image by using known criminals to make these wild allegations.
Notably when some media persons sought response of Sukhbir Badal in this matter (on Jan. 06), he said that a lot of political angles were coming in now. He said that the issue was being turned against their (Badal Dal) government.
He further said that it was their government which arrested Jagdish Bhola and questioned that why would they arrest someone if they were supporting him.
On being asked that Jagdish Bhola was demanding CBI investigation in drugs racket from the day of his arrest and he had again repeated his demand, Sukhbir Badal escaped to offer any answer.
“Let us finish this (the matter of press conference), I won’t discuss these type of criminals” he said.
