Hoshiarpur: The pro freedom party of the Sikhs Dal Khalsa here on Saturday accused the SGPC executive for its “selective” approach towards Takhat jathedar’s saying removing Gaini Gurmukh Singh alone and “protecting” other two including Gaini Gurbachan Singh was totally wrong on its part. Another wrong SGPC did is by appointing arbitrarily next acting Jathedar of Takhat Damdama Sahib and that too from Granthi class.
The party while reiterating stated that till the SGPC removes all the existing lot and build norms and rules for the appointment, working sphere and removal of Jathedar’s, the Sikh premier institution will not be able to revive its moorings and end the crisis.
Upset over the existence of two set of parallel Jathedar’s working at cross purpose and virtually losing their credibility and trust, Dal Khalsa leadership made it clear that they don’t recognize both the set of Jathedar’s one appointed by the SGPC and another by Sikh congregation under the nomenclature of “Sarbat Khalsa’ at Chabha.
For us, the posts are vacant and till the SGPC in consultation with Khalsa Panth appoints Jathedars’ on merit and as per the set procedure, we would stick to our principled position, said H S Cheema, president of the pro-freedom party. He said majority of the Sikhs are at crossroad and confused.
He further stated that the SGPC executive hesitated to admit that the basis for the removal of Gaini Gurmukh Singh was his disclosure about Badal family for engineering the move to pardon Dera Sirsa. “What Gurmukh Singh has said today was known to ordinary Sikh from day one? Being insider, he has just put the stamp on what it was earlier a ‘talk of the town’.
Questioning the sincerity and neutrality of the SGPC, H S Cheema said it’s ironic that when the Sikhs asked for their removal, the SGPC kept mum and now when one of them has opened his mouth to reveal that Badals were controlling their actions through remote control, he has got his marching orders.
Holding all the Jathedar’s responsible for defiling the posts by dancing on the tunes of their political masters unashamedly, he said there’s no question of allowing Gaini Gurbachan Singh and Gaini Mal Singh to continue.
Other party leaders H S Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh said in principle theirs group was deadly against the appointment of jathedar’s from priestly class (read Granthi). “This practice followed by SGPC since recent times has done enough damage to the august post as it has in-build problems, shortcomings and weaknesses”.
They urged the SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Bhadungar to think out of box and evolve consensus to codify the post of Takht Jathedar’s.
