Shahkot/Jalandhar: The ruling Congress party today bagged Shahkot seat. The polling for Shahkot by-election was held May 28. The seat had fell vacant after the death of SAD (Badal) MLA Ajit Singh Kohar.
The counting of votes was held today and the results were declared by afternoon.
As the official update from the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab was awaited at the time of writing this news, as per media reports Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi Sheronwalia secured 82,745 votes to record a victory with a margin of 38,801 votes. SAD (Badal) candidate and former MLA Ajit Singh Kohar’s son Naib Singh Kohar secured 43,944 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate was able to bag only 1900 votes.
