Canada takes on the role as a defender of Sikh image

Canadian PM Trudeau has been full of praises for contribution of Sikhs to Canada and has fully acknowledged during Khalsa Pargat Diwas celebrations held on Canadian Parliament Hill that Khalsa principles and Canadian principles are same and Sikhs are an integral part of Canadian mosaic.  In present times, Canadian Sikhs are amongst the most powerful segment of Sikh population anywhere in the world . Four Canadian Sikhs hold powerful ministries including prestigious post of Minister of National Defence of Canada. India meanwhile is attempting to equate Canada with Pakistan by essentially blaming Canada for having training camps where Sikh militants are being trained to cause violent activities in India. Indian media and Government has thus tried to insult the ability Canadian intelligence to monitor such activities in Canada. Canadian Minister of Public safety Ralph Goodale as well as RCMP spokesperson have refused to comment on specific allegations against Hardeep Singh Nijjar but have categorically stated that Canadian authorities know very well to monitor any possible threats in Canada .

Essentially, India has tried to act as a boss of Canada on this issue and Canadian Government needs to tell India to mind it’s own business instead of preaching to Canada. India should be told to refrain from equating Canada and Pakistan in any way by blaming Canada as a country that is being used to train Sikh militants– a charge that India makes on Pakistan . Canada is an advanced Nation that respects people’s basic human rights whereas India and Pakistan both have a lot of learning to do in this respect.

Canadian media until now has been very careful to not fall victim to Indian media games and is treading carefully on this issue. Canadian Government needs to clearly tell India to refrain from interfering in internal affairs of Canada. India should be asked to refrain from monitoring Canadian Sikhs as it is the job of Canadian intelligence and not Indian intelligence to monitor what goes on in Canada. India should be told to immediately recall all it’s intelligence agents from Canada.
