Cartoon movie depicts Guru Nanak Ji, Disrespects Sikh religion, tradition

Chandigarh: A cartoon movie has appeared on YouTube, which depicts the Guru Nanak Ji in ‘cartoon’ / ‘animation’ mode. The video titled Guru Nanak ( Hindi ), uploaded by ‘Fountain Kids’, on YouTube personifies Guru Nanak ji in cartoon form and is a high offensive film. The description added to the video is also objectionable as it refers to Guru Nanak Ji in improper terminology and tends to present ‘Guru Nanak Ji’ as an ‘ordinary person’.

The fundamental issue/ objection in relation to this movie is that it violates the prohibition imposed by the Sikh panth over depiction of Sikh Gurus in films, dramas or moives. Any depiction or attempted depiction to personify Sikh Gurus is against the tradition and principles of Sikh religion to .

Moreover the makers of the movie have distorted the Sikh history and presented it in all offense and highly objectionable way. For example makers of the movie shows Mehta Kalu Ji, father of Guru Nanak Ji as smoking ‘hukka’.

Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar, Sikh sangat and Sikh organizations, especially the SGPC and DSGMC, should take strong notice of this offensive video.

It also highlights the need to deliberate on the issue of animation and cartoon mode to depict Sikh History.
