Amritsar: A faction led by Charanjit Singh Chadda, former president of Chief Khalsa Diwan, today regained control over the Amritsar based Sikh body. Dr. Santokh Singh was elected as new President of the CKD amidst reports of election irregularities and restrictions on media. Sarabjit Singh is elected as Senior Vice President of CKD and Surinder Singh Rumalianwala is elected for the post of Honorary Secretary.
Dr. Santokh Singh defeated his close contestant Raj Mahinder Singh with a margin of 10 votes. Both Sarabjit Singh and Surinder Singh Rumalianwala were able to secure victory with a margin of mere 3 votes.
The polling for Chief Khalsa Diwan elections started around 12 pm and continued till 5 pm. The CKD imposed strict restrictions on media and journalists were not allowed the enter the compound of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School where the polling was held. CKD representatives declared that out of 513 members of the CKD, 364 used their voting right today.
Dr. Santokh Singh secured 152 votes, where as Raj Mahinder Singh Majithia got 142 votes and acting president Dhanraj Singh trailed at third place with 65 votes.
For the post of Senior Vice President Sarabjit Singh secured 160 votes while Nirmal Singh Thekedar got 157 and Baldev Singh Chauhan trailed at third place with 41 votes. For the post of Honorary Secretary Surinder Singh Rumalianwala got 158, Santnokh Singh Sethi got 155 and Gurinder Singh Chawla got 46 votes.
The re-election for office bearers of CKD was held after its president Charanjit Singh Chadda was caught into a immoral scandal and his video had gone viral over social media.
