Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has demanded thorough probe into fake encounter killings of 21 Sikhs who, according to present Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, had surrendered before Indian forces on his assurances. Notably, Amarinder Singh recently disclosed that 21 ‘Khalistani militants’, whose surrender was arranged by him, were killed afterwards. He also said that he never spoke to the then Indian Prime Minister Chander Shekhar as he had felt betrayed.
I felt betrayed by then PM Chandra Shekhar after 21 Khalistani militants I arranged to surrender were killed. Never spoke to him after that.

In a statement issued on Tuesday (May 23), the SGPC demanded registration of a case in this regard and urged CM Amarinder Singh to order a thorough probe in this matter.
“This is a very serious matter concerning the violation of human rights in Punjab. Amarinder Singh’s disclosure shows that there was no law in operation at that time and Sikhs were being killed extra-judicially” said SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar and executive committee member Amarjeet Singh Chawla.
