Chandigarh/ Punjab: Expressing concerns regarding security of Sikhs living in Pakistan, the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal today urged Indian PM Narendra Modi to take up the issue with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
“The reports of killings of Sikhs in Pakistan are extremely disturbing”, an official statement quoting Badal says.
Badal has written a letter to Narindra Modi saying that the issue was of “extreme urgency and concerning everyone” in India in general and the members of the Sikh community in particular. Badal also pointed out that several innocent Sikhs have already been killed in different parts of Pakistan in recent weeks.
The Chief Minister claimed there was an atmosphere of panic among the minority community families in Pakistan following the recent killings in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who has expressed grave concerns against physical attack on Sikhs in Pakistan is silent on ‘ideological attacks’ by Hindutva forces against Sikhs in India. Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is repeatedly attacking Sikhs by denying independent status of the Sikh religion. Mohan Bhagwat says that Sikh religion was not a separate religion and further that according to RSS ideology Sikh religion was merely a part of Hinduism.
Despite all these attacks of serious nature Punjab CM and his party has adopted silence.
It is notable that Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) is political ally of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), the political offshoot of Hindutva fountain head RSS.
