The five member delegation led by Gurdeep Singh Bhatinda, met the president at Rashtarpati Bhavan for 15 min. Bibi Sarvarinder Kaur, the daughter of Bapu Surat Singh, Dr Bhagwan Singh, Jaswant Singh Mann and Sawran Singh ex-IAS were among the delegation.

Informing the media here today, CRPP member Kanwar Pal Singh said the delegation submitted a memorandum to the highest constitutional authority informing him about Bapu Surat Singh, who was living without food since Jan 16, and was being force fed against his will since Feb 27.

The federal rights of states to release political prisoners and the fundamental universal right of political prisoners to be released in reasonable time awaits your attention, reads the CRPP memo.

Seeking a systemic change in the judicial deliverance of justice to prisoners sentenced to life, Gurdeep Singh Bhatinda told the president that the situation has been confounded by the Supreme Court by putting a bar on the release of prisoners by state governments. It’s ironic that Surat Singh who has sought release of political prisoners is now himself a prisoner.

The delegation urged the president to advise Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen and concede the just demands of the Sikhs.

The delegation of CRPP also complained about the indifferent and negative approach of Punjab government towards the Surat Singh and his family members. “His son Ravinderjit Singh who has come from the US to lend his moral support to his father has also been detained since Feb 27 for no fault of him. He was badly assaulted by police at Ludhiana court premises on April 13 during court hearing”.
