Dal Khasla, AGPC object to Penal announced on Nanakshahi Calendar issue

Amritsar: Sikh bodies- Dal Khalsa and American Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (AGPC) have raised objections against penal announced by Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, on Nanakshahi Calendar issue. Terming it as “one-sided” move Dal Khalsa chief spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said that the committee seems to have been formed with the sole motive reimposing ‘Bikrami Calendar’.

Dr. Pritpal Singh of American Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (AGPC) said that it was irrational to form a penal of persons who know nothing about the calendar. He said that only a penal of experts could help in resolution of the issue.

It is notable that Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had yesterday announced an eighteen member committee to find solution of Nanakshahi Calendar issue. The decision reportedly taken in a meeting of five Sikh Jathedars.

While announcing the decision Giani Gurbachan Singh had said that number of committee members may be increased also.
