Drug mafia list: OP Soni, Ajit Kohar lashes defamation cases against ex-DGP Shashi Kant

Moga, Punjab (June 11, 2014): The former DGP (prisons) Shashi Kant seemed to be facing situation that has been encountered by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s India convener Arvind Kejriwal few days back, as an Amritsar court has summoned Shashi Kant on November 01, 2014 in a defamation case filed by a Congress MLA.

Shashi Kant had revealed names of six Punjab politicians including two cabinet minister, who were allegedly indulged in drugs trade in Punjab. The list included the names of Shahkot MLA Ajit Singh Kohar and Congress MLA from Amritsar Om Prakash Soni. Shashi Kant had ‘disclosed’ these named on April 22 during a news conference at Jalandhar. He had mantained that these names were also mentioned in the list of drug mafia, which he had submitted with state government during his term as DGP (Prisons).

Following revelation of his name, OP Soni had filed a defamation case of Rs 10 crore in the court of additional session judge Amritsar Sushma Devi. The court has summoned Shashi Kant in this case.

On the other hand Badal Dal minister Ajit Singh Kohar has also served a notice on ex-DGP and alleged that statements of ex-DGP has caused set-back to his political career while vote lead of SAD-BJP candidate reduced to 17666 in his constituency. Counsel for Ajit Kohar, Sanjiv Bansal said that he had asked Kant for apology within a period of one week and defamation amount of Rs 2 crore.

Reacting to both the charges made on him, ex-DGP said that he had all the proofs against both politicians and he was ready to face them in the court.
