Fatehgarh Sahib: Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) chief S. Simranjeet Singh Mann has criticised the Punjab police for imposing ban on covering face while riding two wheelers in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur.
According to the police the ban was imposed under section 144 of Cr. P. C. The orders were issued after Hindutva leader Jagdish Gagneja was attacked by unidentified persons in Jalandhar who were on a motorcycle and had covered with faces with handkerchiefs.

SAD (A) chief Simranjeet Singh Mann said the ban was nothing more than a tool to devised to harass Sikh youth, who wear turbans use handkerchiefs to cover their faces to avoid mud and pollution.
Former MP said in a written statement that many complaints have reached in his party’s head office that the police is specifically targeting the Sikh youth the garb of the face cover ban.
He said that the SAD (A) may initiate legal action against the arbitrary restrictions imposed by the police of aforesaid districts.
