Chandigarh: As per media reports, Indian home minister Rajnath Singh recently said that the government was ready to hold dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference leadership if the separatists come forward for talks.
“[Rajnath] Singh, however, made it clear that so far there has been no indication from the Hurriyat that it was ready for peace talks with the government”, notes a report published on May 26 in Hindustan Times (HT).
“I have already said that we are ready for dialogue with all stakeholders in Kashmir. If Hurriyat comes forward for talks, we don’t mind talking to them. Whoever wants to talk with us, we are ready for talks,” Indian home minister reportedly told a TV channel in New Delhi.
On whether there was any indication from the pro-freedom Kashmiri leadership for peace dialogue with the government, Rajnath Singh reportedly said, “There has been no indication so far.”
Meanwhile, according to a report in a The Tribune (TT) three key Hurriyat leaders are likely to hold a meeting on today (May 29) to discuss and take a final call on the dialogue offer by the Central government.
“The meeting is likely to take place at the residence of Syed Ali Geelani and will be attended by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik”, the news report in TT notes.
