Bathinda (May 29, 2011): A day after President’s rejection of the petition of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib as well as political and religious leadership of Punjab announcing to launch a campaign to save Bhullar, the mood is once again somber and despondent in Bhullar’s native village Dayalpura Bhai Ka in Bathinda district.
Many of Davinderpal’s childhood friends have already turned above-40. “He was a childhood close friend, but now, for the last over 25 years, I have never met him nor seen him”, said Tajinder Pal Singh.
“It is only in the newspapers that we read about him and heard about the case, his conviction and his petition to the President”, said Yash Pal, another childhood friend of Davinderpal Singh Bhullar.
Davinderpal’s house was situated on the outskirts of the village, but now, during the last 20 years, the village has expanded to cover his house. But now a lock hangs on its front door as his father is missing for many years since was picked up by police. His mother is travells from Chandigarh to Delhi to look after the cases of her son and missing husband. Over 15 acres of his family land in the village is given on lease.
Sukhdev Singh, sarpanch of Dayalpura Bhail Ka, said the panchayat of Dayalpura and many other panchayats of the villages in their neighbourhood are sending a request to President of India to review the case as hanging Davinderpal is not going to serve any purpose.
