Faridkot/Chandigarh: Punjab Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, a Sikh activist and close associate of slain actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu. The arrests were announced on 10 November 2024 following a joint operation by the Special Squad of Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Mohali, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), and the Faridkot Police.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Anmolpreet Singh alias Vishal (23), a resident of Bhadorh in Barnala, and Navjot Singh alias Neetu (26), a resident of Nijjar Road in Kharar. Police said the two were the shooters who killed Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau on 9 October 2024 in Faridkot.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrests in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “In a major breakthrough, #SSOC Mohali in a joint operation with #AGTF, & @FaridkotPolice, has apprehended two key operatives of #Canada-based Arsh Dalla involved in the murder of Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau in #Faridkot.”
DGP Yadav further revealed that the investigation had uncovered links between the arrested individuals and another murder. “Investigations reveal that the accused also killed Jaswant Singh Gill on November 7, 2024, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh under directions from Arsh Dalla,” he wrote.
The police added that after the killings, the suspects returned to Punjab, where they were arrested near Kharar. “With their arrest, another possible target killing in the state has been averted. Two sophisticated weapons have been recovered,” DGP Yadav noted in his post.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pragya Jain, a third individual, Balvir Singh alias Kalu, the brother of Navjot Singh, was also arrested for aiding and abetting the criminals. SSP Jain confirmed that all three suspects had a criminal history. “All the arrested persons have criminal history,” she was quoted as saying in a report by Business Standard (BS).
Police have also named jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh in the FIR registered on October 10, 2024, under Sections 103 (1) (murder), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Kotkapura police station.
