Infamous Former Cat/Cop Gurmeet Pinky Stripped off Medal by Centre

June 6, 2016 | By

Chandigarh: As per media reports the Central Government of India recently decided to withdraw the alleged “gallantry award” given to a former cat-turned-cop Gurmeet Pinky. The decision is said to be taken in wake of his conviction in a murder case. He was reportedly given “police medal for gallantry” in 1997 on the recommendations of the state government. In its recommendation letter, the government had reportedly issued an integrity certificate.

It is notable that Gurmeet Pinky was booked in Ludhiana resident Avtar Singh Gola’s murder case in 2001 in which he was convicted and given life imprisonment in 2006.

A Ministry of Home Affairs official said the President had on June 7 approved the proposal to withdraw the police medal, adding that the MHA had come to know about the conviction only in July, 2015.

Gurmeet Pinky was instated in police service in 2015 but his reinstatement was soon withdrawn after it had led to controversy. Later, in a long interview with journalist Kanwar Sandhu, Gurmeet Pinky had made massive disclosure of human rights abuses in Punjab by senior Punjab police officials.
