Ahmadabad: Former Gujarat police chief and one of the accuse in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case has been discharged and shall not be convicted in the case that date back to year 2004.
As reported by the media sources PP Pandey has been charged along with other former police officers with conspiracy, illegal confinement and murder in the Ishrat Jehan case by the Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI. He is the first accused to be discharged in the case. He spent 19 months in jail before being let out on bail in February 2015.
It was in June 2004 that 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan and three others were killed in an alleged fake encounter in Gujarat. The Gujarat Police at that time in its theory had claimed that they were Lashkar operatives and were in Gujarat to assassinate Narendra Modi, who was then Chief Minister, notes NDTV in its report.
It is notable that be it the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh or Ishrat Jahan, all the top political leaders belongng to ‘pro-hindutva’ BJP and top police officials involved in these case have been in a subtle manner relived of all charges since the Modi lead government came to power, so forth even the death of special CBI judge Justice Loya under suspicious circumstances have raised questions against the judicial proceedings in these cases.
