Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) appointed acting jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh has directed Sikhs throughout the world to refer to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar as such and not as “Golden Temple”.
The Akal Takht jathedar gave these directions after the India’s National Highway Authority put up a signboard bearing the name “Sunehari Mandir” — a literal translation — while referring to Golden Temple.
“Naming Harmandir Sahib as Sunehari Mandir has severely hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs. Darbar Sahib is not a temple, but a most revered holy place of Sikhs,” said Giani Harpreet Singh on Wednesday. He said the Sikh clergy had now directed the Sikhs to refer to their most revered place as Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib or Sri Amritsar.
