Mansa student dies at Baru Sahib University under misterious circumsances; Suicide suspected

Himachal Pradesh: An M. Tech student reportedly died at Eternal University, Baru Sahib (Himachal Pradesh). Jagtar Singh, 27, hailed from Jalbeda village of Mansa in Punjab is suspected to have committed suicide, as his body was found in water-tank of the campus.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the boy left his room at midnight and jumped into the 5000-litre tank on the roof of the hostel building. The incident came into light on Monday morning when Jagtar’s classmates saw his slippers near the tank.
The police authorities have taken the deceased’s mobile phone in their possession to check the call details. Though no suicide note was not found from the deceased, the police were probing the case from all angles. The police were still waiting for the deceased’s parents to arrive from Mansa, reports Hindustan Times (HT).
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) BS Baragta said preliminary investigation hints that the student committed suicide. He said if needed, the body would be sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for post-mortem.
As per HT news report, Jagtar was the youngest of the five siblings. His father Gurmel Singh retired from the waterworks department. “We cannot believe that he committed suicide. The truth will only come out after the post-mortem report,” said Jagtar’s father. The family is financially stable.
In 2005, a Class 10 student of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, committed suicide by hanging himself in a room. In 2009, a 16-year-old boy from Kharar in Punjab was also found dead in the academy. The family of the Kharar boy had apprehended a foul play in his death, but the authorities termed it a suicide.
