Amritsar, Punjab: The opposition to upcoming controversial movie Nanak Shah Fakir grew stronger with the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) demanding complete ban on the screening of the movie.

After holding a meeting of SGPC executive meeting at Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Niwas in Chandigarh on April 07, 2015, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar asked India’s minister of information and broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification to stop the release of “Nanak Shah Fakir” movie and install a complete ban on it.

Avtar Singh Makkar said that the film Nanak Shah Fakir produced by Harinder Sikka is made in complete violation of established Sikh tenets as it personifies Guru Nanak Ji, Bibi Nanki Ji and Bhai Mardana Ji, which is against Sikh principles.

He said that film producer was wrongfully using the name of “Akal Takhat Sahib” to promote his movie.

SGPC president demanded that two Sikh representatives should be added to CBFC’s film review board to review movies related to Sikh religion and history.
