Never claimed that AAP has links with ISI: says Sukhbir Badal

August 14, 2016 | By

Chandigarh: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has maintained that there were no differences of opinion or perception between him and his father and the CM Parkash Singh Badal on the issue of the conspiracies of the ISI to destabilise peace in Punjab.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Sukhbir Badal said that reports appearing in a section of the press about any differences of perception between him the CM were based on “a misunderstanding of remarks made by me during a press conference in Chandigarh.”

The Deputy CM said that there had clearly been a mess-up by a reporter between two separate statements made by him during the course of that press conference.

“I had stated two separate things very categorically there. One of these was that the AAP leaders have close links with Punjab radicals and are holding meetings with them. I had also said that leaders holding senior and responsible positions like the office of the Chief Minister should not resort to such dangerous politicking in league with radicals,” said the Punjab Deputy CM , adding that it was no secret that AAP and Congress leaders openly took active part in the so-called Sarbat Khalsa at Chabba called by some Sikh groups last year where alleged anti-India resolutions were passed, “though the gathering had been convened on the excuse of discussing the issues of sacrilege against the most sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj.”

The Deputy CM said that during his press conference, he had also referred to the designs of the ISI to destablise peace and stability in Punjab in the period up to the elections in the state. “I had also stated that we had ‘information’ on these designs and we had passed it on to the government of India through the honourable Union Home Minister and India’s National Security Advisor (NSA).”

Junior Badal further said, “It seems that the Chief Minister was asked a question by misquoting me. He was asked to comment on a statement which I had never made – that AAP had links with ISI. I had said that they have links with radicals, but this is something which even the CM knows and has never contradicted.”

The Deputy CM said that in his reply to a question posed the Chief Minister yesterday, the latter had merely said that there was no evidence of ISI links with AAP.

“I too never claimed evidence of AAP links with ISI. Therefore the whole confusion is unnecessary and born out of a misunderstanding by some media persons of what I had said in Chandigarh,” said Sukhbir Badal.
