Fremont, CA: On Saturday, October 12, various minority rights and anti-caste discrimination groups will come together in Fremont to launch the Tamil translation of “Captivating the Simple-Hearted: A Struggle for Human Dignity in the Indian Subcontinent.”
The keynote speaker will be Asiriyar Dr. K. Veeramani, president of Dravidar Kazhagam, the anti-caste social movement founded by Periyar EV Ramasamy in 1944. Other speakers include Dr. Amrik Singh from Sikh Information Centre and Mr. Brian Wright from Organization for Minorities of India. Bhajan Singh, co-author of “Captivating,” will also speak.
“Captivating,” first published in English in 2017 relates the history of how new leaders arose in the Indian subcontinent to introduce a philosophy and lifestyle which captivated the simple-hearted, brought human dignity to the downtrodden masses, and continues to impact the lives and futures of all Mulnivasi Bahujan (original people in the majority). Offering his opinion on the book, Dr. Singh says, “This book is a sincere scholarly attempt to examine the course of the historical journey of the Indian subcontinent…. Captivating blends the vision of Guru Granth Sahib and Mulnivasi history into one goal given by Guru Nanak when he said the Guru’s blessing shall pour forth where the lowest of the low are cared for and protected.”
Periyar International, along with OFMI and SIC, is hosting the event at the Los Cerritos Community Centre, 3377 Alder Ave., Fremont, CA 94536 from 6pm to 8pm. It is free to attend. Snacks and tea will be provided.
