Punjab govt. under constant attack on durgs-Majithia issue; CM rejects Oppn. allegations

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) led Punjab government is under constant attack from opposition over the issue of alleged involvement of cabinet minister Bikram Majithia in multi-crores drugs racket.

Opposition MLAs raised the issue of Majithia’s name coming in the ED investigation into the Rs 6,000 crore synthetic drug racket during debate on Governor’s address to the Vidhan Sabha. Opposition slammed Badal government for ‘shielding’ Bikram Majithia.

Defending his government and minister, Punjab Chief Minister, said ““A person cannot be called as an accused unless he has been summoned by a competent court of law. Here Majithia has been summoned by the ED and not by a court, which does not make him an accused. Uncorroborated evidence can be leveled against anyone. The matter is in the purview of the court, so let the court decide”.

While asking the Opposition to not rake up the issue in Vidhan Sabha, CM Badal said “Thand pao iste” (cool down the issue).
