Chandigarh: It is learned that Punjabi comedian and former chief of the Punjab unit of the Aam Adami Party (AAP) Gurpreet Ghuggi who was removed and shown the door after AAP’s defeat in the state assembly election earlier this year may join Punjab Congress anytime soon.
With Gurdaspur lok sabha by-election in mind the Punjab Congress is of the believe that actor turned politician Gurpreet Ghuggi’s canvassing may boost the campaign of state party president Sunil Jakhar, who is contesting the byelection.
Negotiations with Gurpreet Ghuggi are on and he is likely to join the party soon, though he could not be reached for comments, said the media.
Other than Gurpreet Ghuggi, who had resigned from AAP in protest against his unceremonious removal from the post of state convener after the defeat in Assembly elections, another AAP leader, Kanwalpreet Singh, has also resigned today. He is learnt to be cosying up to the SAD-BJP combine. He had unsuccessfully contested from Qadian, reads a quote from a report published in an English tabloid.
Subsequently, along with his party presidentship Gurpreet Ghuggi also lost assembly election from Batala. Since then, in order to regain his lost stature and try his luck again he had meetings with minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, giving rise to speculation of his joining the Congress, notes The Tribune (TT).
