Rajashtan Sikh sangat to observer martyrdom day of Bhai Sukha-Jinda at Karanpur

Karanpur, Rajashtan (Oct. 05): The martyrdom day of Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Harjinder Singh Jinda will be observed at Bhai Sukha’s native town Karanpur in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.

While talking to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, head of Ajnala faction of Damdami Taksal, said that the Sikh sangat of Rajasthan will be holding a religious function to mark the Shaheedi Dihara (Martyrdom day) of Bhai Sukha-Jinda on October 09.

Bhai Sukha-Jinda had assassinated Arun Vaidiya, former chief of Indian army, under whose command the Indian army had attacked Darbar Sahib Amritsar and other Sikh Gurdwaras in June 1984.

In their letter to the Indian president, Bhai Sukha-Jinda had clarified that they had no personal enmity with Arun Vaidya and they had followed the path shown by the Sikh history and tradition. They had admitted the assassination of Arun Vaidya and happily accepted death sentences awarded by an Indian court.

Their bravery set a unique example that impressed many, even their hangman.

In an interview Ahmadullah, the hangman who hanged Bhai Sukha-Jinda recounted that Bhai Sukha-Jinda chanted freedom slogans at the top of their voices while going to gallows.

Duo were recognized as national martyrs of the Sikh nation by Akal Takht Sahib and their martyrdom day is annually observed at Akal Takht Sahib.
