Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann has again approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court submitting that though the High Court on Tuesday had directed to approach Bathinda Deputy Commissioner for permission to organise December 8 gathering at Talwandi Sabo but before his party workers could reach the Deputy Commissioner, they were picked up by the Punjab Police.
According to the Indian Express (IE), S. Simranjeet Singh Mann in his petition has mentioned: “Parminder Singh Balianwal (Jathedar Bathinda Akali Dal (A)) who went to give application for permission to hold ‘Sarbat Khalsa‘ on December 6, 2016 at 12:30 pm to Deputy Commissioner, Bathinda office was taken into custody by the police.”
He has further added that more than 200 persons have also been arrested and even the granthi reciting Guru Granth Sahib have been taken into custody from the place where the December 8 gathering was to be organised.
“In the given circumstances, the petitioner doesn’t know how to give application to Deputy Commissioner, Bathinda,” reads the plea moved by Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal on S. Simranjit Singh Mann’s behalf.
As per IE, S. Mann’s counsel Ranjan Lakhanpal is expected to re-quest the High Court on Thursday to issue directions to the Punjab government as the court deems it appropriate.
Notably, Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain had on Tuesday directed, “In case, any such application is filed by Thursday to the Deputy com-missioner, Bathinda, the same shall be considered by him objectively and decided within a day thereafter.”
Earlier, the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner on November 5 had refused permission to Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) and United Akali Dal (UAD) organisers of event which was earlier to be held on November 10 at Talwandi Sabo.
