Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, in a written press release sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), said: [e]very election puts struggling nations and their representative bodies in a fix as they debate their participation mindful of the pitfalls that such elections have inbuilt in them.

He said theirs being a revolutionary political party of the Sikhs, has decided to approach this issue head long.

He said the dichotomy of the Sikh polity is pronounced –protesting, ruing, yearning, cribbing and complaining yet participating in electoral politics of the country. He said the panthic representatives would hotly debate and discuss this predicament at a seminar to settle the issue. He said the speakers would analyze the loses and achievements of Sikhs as a community while participating in the election process since 1952.

He said the dilemma of struggling nations and peoples is palpable in Kashmir, but dormant in Punjab and the North-east. Despite all misgivings and utterances of the present Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that, “Delhi has always cheated and ignored Punjab” and the fact that since last 3 years, the elected Sikh body –the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has been put on hold by the executive and the judiciary, the Sikhs of Punjab are into throes of politicking and electioneering.

He lashed out at both main national parties Congress and BJP for not addressing the fundamental questions and the core concerns of the Sikhs. “Akalis have become subservient to the Hindutva force, causing serious damage to the once Sikh party”.

It has always been a casual and convenient approach to participate in elections, notwithstanding the loss to the collective aspirations of the Sikh Nation”, he said.
