Amritsar (August 25, 2011): Applying all foul and unfair means, the Dal Khalsa alleged that Shiromani Akali Dal was luring and threatening the candidates belonging to Panthic Morcha to ensure their withdrawal from the poll arena by Aug 26, the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers for the September 18 SGPC elections.
In a statement Kanwar Pal Singh said horse –trading is in full swing to ensure that the maximum number of SAD nominees get elected unopposed, especially in Majha belt. The manner in which candidates were being lured or pressurized, by no account we can call it free and fair elections.
By using carrot and stick policy, the senior leaders of SAD were approaching the candidates of different parties that are part of the Morcha in all constituencies. They are luring them with “promises” of making them member through co-option or offering them cash. In Majha region, some police officers behaving like district Akali jathedars’ were also assigned the task to win over the candidates.
Though the frontal faces to execute this move were Bhai Manjit Singh and Bhai Ram Singh who ditched Simranjit Singh Mann and joined Badal led Akali Dal few days back. However, both are being remote controlled by Youth Akali Leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia who is hell bent to project himself as the unchallenged leader of the SAD in the Majha belt.
Those who have left Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) to join Badal Dal yesterday in a managed show at Punjab Bhavan, are all spent forces having no importance or relevance.
Ironically, the Chairman of the Gurdwara Election Commission has connived with ruling party. The Commission has given enough time for horse trading to take place. Notably, the Commission has given ten days for withdrawal of nomination papers after scrutiny.
