Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress is caught into a controversy after party chief Capt. Amarinder Singh was termed as ‘Mard Agamra’- a religious titles often used for Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Moreover a comment by comedian and politician Navjot Sidhu has also invited criticism from Sikh circles- where Sidhu alleged said that “Jab tak Congress bahal na karau, Sidhu nam na kehau”.
As per reports PPCC Secretary Harbans Singh Pandher compared Captain Amarinder Singh with “Mard Agamra” at Fatehgarh Sahib on Saturday (January 21).
In a written press release issued on Sunday (Jan. 22) the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) warned the Congress party against distorting the Sikh tenets. SGPC chief Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the Congress party was known as ‘killer of innocent Sikhs’ and this party must refrain from hurting Sikh sentiments by distorting Sikh tenets. He said that the issued would be referred to Akal Takht Sahib.

In a seperate statement issued on Monday (Jan. 23), Panthic Talmel Sangathan strongly criticised the Congress party. PTS convenor and former jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh said that such cheap tactics of Congress won’t help it in upcoming Punjab polls. He cautioned the Sikh sangat against wilful distortion of Sikh tenets by the Congress party leaders.
