May 29, 2016 | By

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has decided to renovate Teja Singh Samundari Hall. The Hall is head office of the SGPC and it was damaged during Indian army’s attack on the Darbar Sahib in June 1984. The SGPC had moved a compensation suit against the Government of India in Indian court while lays pending for over three decades. The building was never renovated after the attack and it had turned into a de-facto monument but now the SPGC has decided to repair it.

In a written statement (copy available with the Sikh Siyasat News) issued on May 28, SGPC secretary Daljit Singh Bedi said that the renovation work at Teja Singh Samundari Hall will start in 2-4 days. He said that the condition of the Hall has deteriorated therefore the SGPC has decided to carry out the renovation work. He said that the signs of June 1984 attack will be ‘preserved’.

Earlier, during the secretaryship of Manjit Singh Calcutta, the SGPC had erased the bullet marks and other visible signs of June 1984 attack on the Darbar Sahib by the Indian Army.
