Amritsar: A Shaheedi Samagam was held at Baba Atal, near the Darbar Sahib complex, on June 15 to honor the memories of Shaheed Avtar Singh Khanda and Shaheed Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The event commenced with the Bhog of Akhand Paath of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, followed by soul-stirring Gurbani Kirtan performed by the Hazoori Ragi Jatha of Bhai Jagroop Singh.

After the Ardas, Giani Baljeet Singh, Granthi of Darbar Sahib, recited the Hukumnama Sahib, imparting spiritual wisdom and solace to the gathered devotees.

The samagam was organized by Mata Charanjit Kaur, mother of Bhai Avtar Singh Khanda, with the assistance of the Sangat.

Representatives from various Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann), and Dal Khalsa, attended the event. Their participation underscored the collective reverence within the Sikh community for the contributions and sacrifices of Avtar Singh Khanda and Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Notably, family members and supporters of the newly elected Khadoor Sahib MP, Amritpal Singh, had issued a large advertisement in newspapers promoting the event. However, Mata Charanjit Kaur distanced herself from this advertisement, reiterating that the samagam was being organized solely by the family and the Sangat, without the involvement of any external party or organization.

In a Facebook post on June 15, Mata Charanjit Kaur emphasized that the event was not affiliated with any political party or organization, implicitly distancing herself from groups like Waris Punjab De, led by Amritpal Singh. She posted a red-crossed screenshot of the advertisement issued by family members and supporters of Amritpal Singh.

The Shaheedi Samagam was marked by deep reflection and remembrance, as speakers recounted the lives and sacrifices of the martyrs.
