Sikh bodies staged protest against India’s efforts to shield Kamal Nath

New Delhi (January 27, 2011): Hundreds of victims and widows of November 1984 staged a protest against Government of India’s efforts to save Minister Kamal Nath from trial in United States and demanded that Kamal Nath be dismissed from Ministership. The victims were carrying placards and were raising slogans demanding dismissal of Kamal Nath and to prosecute him for leading the mob that attacked Gurudwara Rakab Ganj and killed Sikhs in November 1984.
The victims also submitted a Memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking to stop shielding killer of Sikhs and stop backing backing Kamal Nath in seeking diplomatic immunity in Genocide Trial before U.S. Court.
The rally was organized by All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), National 1984 Victims Justice and Welfare Society and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). Speaking to the gathering, Karnail Singh Peermohammad, President AISSF demanded that India should put an end to the policy of shielding and defending the killer of Sikhs, should dismiss Kamal Nath from Ministership and should not seek “diplomatic immunity” for Kamal Nath in 1984 Sikh Genocide Trial pending before U.S. Court.
United States is a beacon of “human rights and justice” and it should not protect a killer from trial, stated Karnail Singh Peermohammad. He also announced that victims will submit a memorandum to the US Ambassador to India urging his government to side with the victims of November 1984 instead of protecting the killer.
Babu Singh Dukhiya, President, National 1984 Victims Justice and Welfare Society stated that “1984 victims have been denied justice in India for more than 26 years and now their efforts to seek justice at international level are being sabotaged by leaders of Congress (I)”.
Babu Singh Dukhiya further stated that if “Kamal Nath is not dismissed from Ministry, victims of Novmber 1984 will go on hunger strike and our blood will be on hands of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh”.
