Ajitgarh/ Mohali, Punjabi (November 29, 2013): In a show of solidarity with Bhai Gurbakash Singh, the person who is on fast unto death for last 16 days, the Sikhs bodies today supported his cause and declared that their representative will also sit with him for hunger strike for one day on Dec 2 at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Ajitgarh.
The representatives of Dal Khalsa, SAD (Panch Pardani), Sikh Youth of Punjab, Khalsa Panchayat today visited Gurbakash Singh, to express their solidarity with him and also inquire about his well-being.
Notably, Gurbakash Singh is on strike to seek the release of five Sikh detainees namely Lakhvinder Singh, Gurmit Singh, Shamsher Singh (all Burail jail), Lal Singh (Nabha jail) and Gurdeep Singh (Karnataka jail) who were under detention from last 2 decades.
Briefing the media, Harcharnjit Singh Dhami, Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib, Kanwar Pal Singh, Rajinder Singh, Gurtej Singh former IAS, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said they had decided that Panthic personalities and rights activists would observe hunger strike on Monday from 10 AM to 5 Pm. They appealed to all justice-seekers, human rights activists and groups of different shades to participate in the peaceful sit-in.
They alleged that there were two different sets of law in the country- one for majority and another for minority. They criticized the justice system terming it biased. Blaming the successive governments for adopting double standards vis-à-vis Sikhs, they said that the present DGP of Punjab S S Saini has been accused in the murder case of 3 innocent persons of Ludhiana and is facing trail in the CBI court. “Even then he was enjoying the plum post and is under state patronage. All eyes are being shut as far as his offence is concerned”, they rued. On the other hand, these five Sikh detainees are languishing in jails since decades even after undergoing the life sentence handed over to them by various courts.
They urged the SGPC and DSGPC to come out in support of Gurbakash Singh as his cause is genuine and pro-community. They urged Shiromani Akali Dal not to maintain studied silence, rather its leadership should take up these cases with Union government to ensure their release.
Others who were present include SSF head Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, Gurnam Singh Sidhu, Sandeep Kaur Kashtiwal, Noblejeet Singh.
