New York, USA (January 28, 2014): According to certain media reports Ravi Batra, counsel of Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that Sonia Gandhi will not depose in a human rights violation lawsuit filed against her by Sikhs for Justice in a US Federal court.
Ravi Batra was responding to a demand made by the Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) in this regard.
SFJ’s legal attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had last week said that the plaintiffs would request a US federal court to depose the Congress president regarding her presence in the US in September 2013 and on the service of summons on her.
Reacting to SFJ’s demand, Ravi Batra said it was a “pity” that the group was creating “false public expectations” that the political leader would depose in the lawsuit filed against her regarding the 1984 related case.
It is notable that a New York based US Federal court has grated time till February 6 to the Sikhs for Justice to investigate whether Sonia was in the city between September 2 and September 9 last year and file its opposition to her motion to dismiss the lawsuit due to insufficient service of summons.
