Amritsar: Various Sikh groups have given a ‘Punjab Bandh’ (Punjab Shutdown) call on January 10 to extend support to Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who is on an indefinite hunger strike for last 57 days (since Nov. 14, 2014) demanding release of Sikh political prisoners are jailed in various states of Indian subcontinent even after completing jail terms.
An announcement in this regard was made by Sikh outfit group Damdami Taksal led by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala.
Other organizations which are supporting the bandh call are United Akali Dal led by Mohkam Singh, Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwale, Sikh Youth Front and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee.
It is notable that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khasla, who has been on indefinite hunger strike since Nov. 14, 2014 at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Shaib in Ambala in Haryana, is seeking the release of seven Sikh political prisoners namely Bhai Lal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Wariam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Khera and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.
Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had announced to visit Darabar Sahib in Amritsar as his ‘last wish’ but he was not allowed to move out of Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib by Haryana government.
