New Delhi:  As the stand off between Indian and Chinese troops enters the 10th day, the Chinese authorities in a fresh statement has maintained that India is ‘misleading’ the general public by stating that the road infrastructure in Sikkim sector undertaken by China will endanger New Delhi’s access to its North Eastern states.

According to China the region where the road is being built is a part of its territory according to a treaty signed in 1890 with Britain when it was a colonial power.

“The Indian side is actually misleading the public by saying that the incident took place at the tri-junction point,” Chinese government official reportedly said while referring to India flagging the new road as a major security concern because of its location at the “tri-junction” or area where Tibet, India and Bhutan meet.

China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil, but both Bhutan and India are claiming that the area in question is Bhutanese territory.

While interacting with the media the Chinese ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui reiterated that  Indian troops should “unconditionally pull back to the Indian side”. There is no question of a compromise.

On the media front stepping up its attacks through press notes and editorials  the Chinese state media here today asked Indian troops to move out of Dokalam area in Sikkim ‘with dignity or be kicked out’, describing the situation as ‘worryingly tense’. Two newspapers in China, Global Times and China Daily, warned India of consequences if it ‘incites’ China.

The state run daily Chinese vernacular in its report said that India will suffer “greater losses” than in 1962 if it “incites” border clashes with China.

“We believe the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is powerful enough to expel Indian troops out of Chinese territory. The Indian military can choose to return to its territory with dignity, or be kicked out of the area by Chinese soldiers.” reads a quote from the editorial published in Global Times.

“We need to give diplomatic and military authorities full power to handle the issue. We call on Chinese society to maintain high-level unity on the issue. The more unified the Chinese people are, the more sufficient conditions the professionals will have to fight against India and safeguard our interests. This time, we must teach New Delhi a bitter lesson.” notes China Daily in its editorial.

China and India have been engaged in a standoff in the Dokalam area near the Bhutan tri-junction since June 6 after a Chinese Army construction party came to build a road.
