Jalandhar, Punjab (April 23, 2014): Former Punjab DGP (Jails) Shashi Kant, who recently joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reportedly said Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had asked him for mapping of ‘Premis’, the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda, and the information was used for a conspiracy to create a rift between the Sikhs and Dera Sacha Sauda.
Addressing a press conference at Jalandhar on April 22, Shashi Kant said, that in 2007 after the formation of the Badal Dal-BJP government the first job ‘my friend’, Deputy Chief Minister-cum- Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal asked me to do was ‘mapping of Dera Premis’.
According to YesPunjab.Com, when asked to elaborate, Shashi Kant said, that he was directed to provide a village wise list of all the Premis so that it could be later used to influence or pressurise them.
Shashi Kant disclosed that a tall list was thus prepared on the orders of the Deputy CM which could have been utilised to create a big controversy in Punjab by fuelling a divide between the Sikhs and the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda.
“Ek changa mota bundle documents da bana ke bhejya gaya si”, he said.
“This was a ploy to pressurise them and gain politically by securing their votes”, he said.
Narrating sequence of events, Shashi Kant said that being ADGP Intelligence at that time, he knew how a dress was sent, how pictures were prepared and a conspiracy was hatched.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim had invited a controversy when he at his dera, dressed himself like the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji and administered so-called ‘jam-e-insan’ to Dera followers. This had led to a conflict becuase the personification of Sikh Gurus is strictly prohibted in Sikhism.
Shashi Kant also said that it was clear to him how after that the two sides were provoked and attempts were made to bring them face to face for a face off.
“That was a well thought of and a well planned political move and they might have succeeded in getting support and votes”, he added.
“It was a political kissa to fetch votes by pressursing them”, the former DGP said.
The former DGP who has been, spearheading a battle against the drug peddlers and the political patronage to them, had joined AAP and is now seen as a senior leader of the party in Punjab.
Asked about why he fell apart with the powers that be, Shashi Kant said, “Once a bus of Orbit Transport Company was stopped by some people and I was asked to plant opium on them, which I refused to. The respect I had for him started to diminish with it.”
The former DGP said that he used to attend meetings in Sector 2 and Sector 9 residences in Chandigarh of the powers that be to provide inputs as ADGP Intelligence, where political intrigues were planned.
“I still regret being a part of it. It saddened me then, it saddens me even now. Whatever happened there, be it regarding Dera Sacha Sauda, be it creation of rift between two factions, these kind of plannings, intrigues. I still regret it”.
