The Government of India (GoI) last Saturday (Sept. 28) announced that it has decided to grant premature release to 8 out of 22 Sikh political prisoners who were sentenced to imprisonment for life and are confined in various jails across the Indian sub-continent.
Patiala, Punjab: Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, who was sentenced to imprisonment for life in Punjab CM Beant Singh case and who is currently bailed out on parole, visited Guru Nanak Nagar in Patiala on November 16.

Duo were released on parole on December 27, 2013 after 44 days long hunger strike protest by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.

Ludhiana, Punjab (January 07, 2013): Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha was released from Burail Jail for 28 days on parole after about 45 days long hunger strike by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. A Sikh activist Papalpreet Singh has interviewed Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha.
Amritsar, Punjab (December 27, 2013): The persistent efforts of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa culminated today in the parole of Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh. They were released from Chandigarh Model Jail, Burail in the late evening on parole of 28 days.

Amb Sahib/ Chandigarh (December 21, 2013): As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) the process of grant of parole (temporary release) of Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh is nearing completion. According to information shared on Facebook Fans page by Sikh Organization of Prisoners’ Welfare (UK), the process of grant of parole has reached final stage at government level. The Sikh Siyasat News sources have also confirmed this development.
Chandigarh/ Punjab (December 13, 2013): Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khasla is on hunger strike for last one month, since November 14, 2013, seeking release of 6 (previously 5) Sikhs lodged in various Jails in India despite having completed the minimum mandatory terms of their sentences. These include Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh (all in Central Jail, Burrail), Lal Singh (in Maximum Security Jail, Nabha), Wariam Singh (in a Jail in Uttar-Pardesh) and Gurdeep Singh (in Gurbarg Jail of Karnatka).
