The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar has written a letter to the Indian government seeking ban the release and screening of controversial movie titled “Nanak Shah Fakir”. Avtar Singh Makkar says that the movie produced by Harinder Sikka violates Sikh tenets and norms by portraying Guru Nanak and his family members.
Even as the SGPC wrote to the Union Broadcasting Ministry, seeking a ban on the controversial film, ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, the resentment against the filmmaker is increasing among the Sikh community ahead of its release on April 17.

The petition moved through Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal says Sikh religion forbids showing Guru Nanak in “living form”. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has supported the SGPC’s demand for a ban on the movie “Nanak Shah Fakir” stating that it should not be released. He also objected to Harinder Sikka, producer of Nanak Shah Fakir film, using his name for the promotion of the controversial movie.
Dal Khalsa has asserted that the film ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ produced by Harinder Singh Sikka has the evil potential to challenge and subvert the fundamental belief system of the Sikhs, hence it cannot be allowed to be released.
