I’ve only seen the documents this morning and am told there are others that have been withheld. This is not good enough. It is not unreasonable to ask for an explanation about the extent of British military collusion with the government of Indira Gandhi.

This movie is based on true-life events related Shaheed Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, who had assassinated/ punished Indian Prime minister Indira Gandhi after the later had ordered armed attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984.

Chandigarh/ Punjab (November 1, 2013): Named as “butcher of Punjab” by many human rights organization, Punjab police former Punjab police chief KPS Gill has blamed former Prime Minister Office (PMO) to ‘wrongly advise’ Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, that attack on Darbar Sahib was the ‘only option’ to ‘control the situation’. In his statement he has attempted to absolve Indira Gandhi from liability of the attack that had led to her assassination on October 31, 2013.
London, United Kingdom (October 15, 2013): It is learnt that a UK court has deferred the sentencing of four Sikhs, including one woman, to December 10, 2013. They were convicted of carrying out an attack on Indian Army’s retired Lt. General Kuldip Brar who had led the Indian army’s attack on Sikh Gurdwaras across Punjab and adjoining states in June 1984, including Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.
London, United Kingdom (September 21, 2013): It is learnt that the sentencing of three Sikhs convicted of carrying out an attack on Indian army's retired Lt Gen Kuldip Brar was postponed to next month by a British court on September 19, 2013.
London, UK (August 17, 2013): As per recent media reports (the British media regulatory authority called "Ofcom" has fined a UK-based Sikh television channel, Sangat TV, £30,000 over a comment passed by one of the guests participating in a discussion over the issue of attack on Indian Army's former officer Kuldip Brar. The show was aired in October 2012 when Kuldip Brar was assulted by some Sikhs in London.
A TV serial produced and anchored by Kanwar Sandhu former Managing Editor of Chandigarh-based ‘Day & Night’ T.V. channel on the Indian Army attack on Golden Temple, Amritsar in June 1984 largely questions the way of conducting the Operation but slips the basic politics that led to the storming of the holiest place of the Sikhs. And the serial which, obliviously, finds fault with Army general’s military strategy does not unravel why the Indian State chose to suppress the political dissent of a minority with mammoth use of the force knowing well the Operation would entail serious repercussions.

Trio have been reportedly convicted for causing grievous bodily harm to Kuldip Brar, former Indian Army officer who had led a deadly attach on Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984, India.

Ottawa, Canada (June 06, 2013): The World Sikh Organization of Canada joined the Sikhs across the world in remembering the Indian army’s June 1984 assault on the Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, Punjab. The attack took place as Sikhs gathered to commemorate the martyrdom day of the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan. In addition to the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, 38 other gurdwaras across Punjab were also attacked and thousands of innocent Sikh men women and children lost their lives.

The sentiments of sovereignty that was strengthened by army attack on Darbar Sahib have not been buried with the passage of time and change in political scenario. I extend deep sympathies on the 29th anniversary of the invasion of the Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple and dozens of other Gurdwaras in Punjab India. The tragic events that began in June of 1984 and the subsequent repercussions have left an indelible mark on the Sikh community and the whole Indian community, in Canada and abroad.
