The main reason behind static and confused situation on this issue could be the complex nature of issue, which on the one hand relates to the internal dynamics of the Sikh society (the definition of Sehajdhari and their role) and on the other hand it is related to relations of Sikhs with the Indian State (the Sikh Gurudwara Management Act, 1925; the role of Indian Parliament in Sikh religious affairs regarding amendment etc. of the 1925 Act and role of Indian courts being interpretting authority in relation to the said Act.).
Chandigarh (December 20, 2011): A three judges constitutional bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court today pronounced the much-awaited verdict on the voting rights of non-practising “Sehajdhari” Sikhs in Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) polls. The Court has set aside October 8, 2003 notification issued by the the Central Government of India, disbanding “sehajdharis” from voting in SGPC elections.
Chandigarh (September 08, 2011): Expressing doubts over fair conduct of SGPC elections under a deputy commissioner (DC) who once harboured political aspirations and had even contested the previous gurdwara polls, SAD (Panch Pardhani) has demanded removal of Harkesh Singh Sidhu from the DC's post. The complaint refers to Sidhu as DC, Sangrur - a post he held till last year.

Punjab Lokpal, Justice (Retd) D S Dhaliwal, today ordered an inquiry into complaint on "illegal occupation" of prime government land in Kapurthala district by former SGPC chief Jagir Kaur at the alleged behest of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Ludhiana (August 29, 2011): The American Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (ASGPC) has made an appeal to Sikhs voting for the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections for a written promise from candidates contesting elections that they would promote religious agenda of the Sikh nation.

Chandigarh (August 28, 2011): It is learnt that the Chief Commissioner Gurudwara Elections has issued orders directing the voters to establish their identity at the Polling stations at the time of poll for the SGPC Election to be held on 18 September, 2011 by producing the identity cards issued them under the authority of Election Commission of India.

Ajit Singh Bains today appealed to Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann to contest SGPC election from Channanwal (Barnala) instead of Bassi Pattana constituency of district Fatehgarh Sahib.

Chandigarh (July 31, 2011): The Central Committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) is reported to have "unanimously" authorized Party President Sukhbir Singh Badal and Patron Parkash Singh Badal to select candidates for the upcoming SGPC elections.

An Express News Service (ENS) report adds that notification fixing dates for various stages of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee elections would be issued on August 4, when the process of nominations would start. The Central Government of India has already fixed the date of poll as 18th September, 2011.

Amritsar (April 16, 2011): Even as an inquiry conducted by Deputy Commissioner KS Pannu into alleged irregularities in the registration of voters for the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections has indicted junior officials for laxity, complainants have termed the probe an eyewash. They say the probe was conducted half-heartedly and all allegations were not probed; besides, they say, senior officials were spared the blame.
