In a community update dated: August 08, 2014 the Sikh Coalition informed that a Sikh resident of New York City, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was attacked and injured on Roosevelt Island last night in an apparent hate crime.
Washington, United States (July 18, 2014): A Sikh advocacy group in the US has asked the National Security Agency and the FBI to provide them information about alleged use of ethnic slurs in surveillance programmes targeting their community.
Wuhan, China (July 18, 2014): Last Saturday night in Wuhan, China, moments before the beginning of the Asia Cup’s India vs. Japan game, referees told two Sikh player paying for Indian team – Amrit Pal Singh and Amjyot Singh that they were violating Article 4.4.2 of FIBA’s official rules, which states that “Players shall not wear equipment (objects) that may cause injury to other players.”
Gagandeep Kaur, a fourth grade student of John Sinnott Elementary School of Milpitas in California aspires to be an international football player. A forward in Under-10, the local Galaxy club football team, Kaur has been winning matches for her teammates by scoring maximum goals in the inter-club matches. But instead of becoming their favourite, Kaur has been drawing unusual attention from her teammates. Even in school, she and her 7-year-old brother, Agamjot Singh, are being bullied by other students for their uncut hair and Punjabi attire. Kids mock them and often touch and twist Agamjot's "joora", calling it names.

According to a newsletter by the Sikh Coalition the Oak Creek sangat is organizing the Chardhi Kala 6K Memorial Run and Walk to be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014. On August 5, 2012, Sikhs were shocked as a gunman opened fire at a gurdwara in Oak Creek, WI. The Chardikala Walk is being organized to commemorate the two-year anniversary of that horrific event.

Washington, US (May 06, 2014): It is learnt that the US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel would be considering requests made by over 120 lawmakers, both from the House of Representatives and the Senate, on allowing Sikhs to serve in the armed forces without any compromise of their religious identity and symbols, the Pentagon has said.
Fremont, CA (May 4, 2014): In March 2014, the Sikh Coalition released a report on the endemic bullying of Sikh school children in America. The report, entitled "Go Home Terrorist" – A Report on Bullying Against Sikh American School Children, found that the majority of Sikh children, just over 50%, endure school bullying. This report has garnered media attention on both the national and local level.
Washington, DC (May 02, 2014): According to a news-letter by the Sikh Coalition the Office of the Pentagon Chaplain commemorated Vaisakhi, one of the most religiously significant days in the Sikh tradition, for the first time on April 25.
Washington, DC (April 11, 2014): According to 21 faith and interfaith groups Pentagon's new religious guidelines are still discriminatory as they impose "stifling" requirements on religion observing service members.

The catalyst for the discussion was a report issued earlier this month titled "Go Home, Terrorist," written by the Sikh Coalition. The coalition, created after 9/11 when Sikhs experienced violence and discrimination, works toward civil and human rights for all.

Washington DC (March 16, 2014) - The Sikh Coalition released a groundbreaking report on March 13, 2014 in US Congress, on the endemic and severe bullying of Sikh school children in America.
The Sikh Coalition was recently asked to present to a group of inmates at San Quentin State Prison in Northern California. Organized by the Asian Prisoner Support Committee, which has a weekly class inside San Quentin State Prison called SQ ROOTS (Restoring Our Original True Selves), the Sikh Coalition was asked to make a presentation about the Sikh community.
Washington DC (February 2, 2014): As per information extended by the Sikh Coalition, the Sikh Americans packed a Congressional hearing room and a hearing overflow room this past Wednesday to press the Pentagon to modify new uniform and grooming regulations that place a presumptive barrier to Sikh military service in the United States.
Despite public heralding of the brand new Pentagon rules signaling a renewed commitment to religious accommodation, the rules actually generate more confusion than promise. There's been talk of turbans and beards, religious liberty and inclusion galore.
Washington, DC (January 18, 2014): It is learnt that on January 8, 2014, the Sikh Coalition—in partnership with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and the law firm McDermott Will & Emery—organized a Congressional briefing to highlight ongoing challenges faced by Sikhs who wish to serve in the U.S. military.
