Chandigarh: A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail, United Akali Dal (UAD) chief (on Jan. 9) was presented before a local court at Amritsar by the district police on productions warrants.
The police was reportedly able to secure two days police remand of UAD chief in a case registered in relation Bandi Chhor day address by Bhai Dhian Singh Mand at the Akal Takhat Sahib. The case was registered on the complaint of manager of Darbar Sahib against Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, who was declared as acting Jathedar of Akal Takhat Sahib by the organisers of the panthic congregation of November 10, 2015.
A representative of the United Akali Dal (UAD) told the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that Bhai Mohkam Singh was in already in the police custody when Bhai Dhian Singh Mand delivered a speech in front of the Akal Takhat Sahib on November 11.
He said that the counsel of UAD chief had opposed the remand plea of the Amritsar police in a local magistrate’s court while raising the question that when Bhai Mohkam Singh was already in police custody then how he could be framed in this case?
“The court, however, sent Bhai Mohkam Singh on two days police remand” he added, while alleging that the government was using ‘cheep’ tactics to keep UAD leaders behind the bars.
Meanwhile, UAD secretary Gurdeep Singh Bathinda was release on interim bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on health basis. Both Gurdeep Singh and Mohkam Singh, besides others, are facing sedition charges framed by the Punjab police in relation to a panthic congregation held at village Chabba on November 10, 2015. They were granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday.
